Compton Acres

Compton Acres is a fantastic privately owned garden just a short drive or bus ride from The Whitehall Hotel.
Compton Acres was built in 1924, and includes late Victorian Mixed Style design with a number distinct gardens to wander around and enjoy. The gardens are:

The Wooded Valley
A woodland delight all year round, The Wooded Valley is breathtaking in the spring.

The Heather Garden
The Heather Garden reaches its peak in winter and late summer when the heather is at its most vibrant.

The Italian Garden
A classically styled garden, featuring statues, topiary and an ornamental pool help to give the Italian Garden its deserved reputation as an outstanding garden.

Rock and Water Gardens
With over 200 different taxa as well as 2000 dwarf spring bulbs this is a fine example of 1920’s landscape design and construction, which can be seen all year round.

The Japanese Garden
A traditional wooden Tea House, and a classic water garden design make this garden a truly wonderful experience.

Compton Acres is one of the most important historic gardens in England, and a perfect day out. Apart from the breath-taking gardens, there is also a plant centre and a gift shop. Add to this a first rate cafe serving home-made breakfast and lunch, and a spectacular afternoon tea with a stunning array of home-baked cakes and treats.
